What is a tech pack? A simple guide for bag brands
A tech pack (technical specification) is the document that tells a factory exactly how to make a product. It replaces guesswork with a single reference that everyone can check, from design to inspection.
What goes in it
- Drawings: flat views of the front, back, sides, base and interior, with callouts.
- Measurements and tolerances: every key dimension with the acceptable variation.
- Bill of materials: leather, lining, reinforcement, thread and adhesives, with specifications.
- Hardware: zips, buckles and fittings listed by supplier reference, with finish and quantity.
- Construction: stitch type and density, edge finishing, folding and assembly notes.
- Branding and labels: logo method, size, position, colour and label details.
- Packaging: individual pack, carton size, and marks.
- Quality and testing: inspection points, defect limits and tests required.
- Revision history and approvals: who approved what, and when.
Keeping it useful
- Keep one current version, and number every revision.
- Add a swatch or colour standard for any colour that must match.
- Update it after every sample stage, so the next sample builds on what was agreed.
If you don’t have a tech pack yet, send us your sketches and references. We can help you turn them into one.
