Emboss, deboss or foil: choosing a logo finish
The way your logo appears on leather changes how the product feels. These are the main options.
Deboss
The logo is pressed into the surface. It is subtle, tactile and popular for premium products.
Emboss
The logo is raised from the surface. It has more presence, but needs a leather thick enough to hold the shape.
Blind or foil
A blind finish uses pressure only, with no colour. Foil adds metallic or coloured film to the pressed area for contrast. Gold and silver are traditional, and matte tones look more modern.
Choosing well
- Leather surface. Smooth leather shows fine detail best. A heavy grain can swallow small lines.
- Logo detail. Simple shapes and thicker lines press cleanly. Very fine text can fill in.
- Placement. Keep it away from seams and folds, and aim for balance.
- Test first. Ask for a sample on the same leather and colour.
